Elucidation of gene action and combining ability for grain and forage yield and contributing traits in sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench]

The present investigation was undertaken to achieve information on gene action and combining ability in sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench]. experimental material consisted of eleven parents their 28 Line × Tester crosses. evaluation carried out during Kharif, 2020 at Sorghum Research Station, S. D. Agricultural University, Deesa. ratio σ2D/σ2H being more than unity found for days flowering, which suggested a significant role additive genetic variance the inheritance this trait. In contrast, rest yield its component traits showed non-additive variance. gca effects indicated that parents, SR 3019, CSV 31 GJ 43 were as good general combiners grain per plant. While, DS 156, SPV 2682 dry fodder plant contributing traits. Based estimates sca effects, most promising hybrids viz., 2980 31, 3019 2573 DSF 117 2682, whereas viz.,SR 3048 168 2573. can be utilized intensive crossing programme select transgressive segregants desired characters segregating generations develop superior lines.
